IN THIS EPISODE
1:51 Tonya shares her personal story of a loss as she’s spent the last few days remembering her grandfather as he recently died. She shares how she is connecting the dots between real life and business life and using lessons through this period of time.
4:10 There was a man at Tonya’s grandfather’s wake who shared that he’d lost his teenage son in a car accident, and a little while later lost his other son in a car accident. He said, “I can grieve and there will always be emotion and missing them, but life must go on for the others in my family and myself because I have a whole life to live.” He found things to do to keep him going.
6:20 We experience loss when it comes to losing a person, and we can experience those same emotions in business after you’ve had a major bummer. You just want to sit and do other things because a launch didn’t go well, or you lost a client.
7:48 After you’ve gone through a bummer, used losely as loss of a person, monetary or something didn’t turn out well, when something bummery happens to you, you can give yourself a time limit on your pity party. Instead of trying to fight that emotion, give yourself permission to cry or binge on Netflicks, but put a time limit on it.
9:36 How do you bounce back when your time of mourning is over. Make a bucket list of things you want to do and then use that to get going again. Tell yourself that tomorrow I’m going do the smallest one thing on the list and then do it.
Meditation is also another way and allow yourself to follow the thoughts of “why me”, or why does this happen. Allow yourself to find the silver lining in it.
12:30 The easiest thing to do is change your state. Get off the couch, take a shower, do your make-up and feel better about yourself. If you change your physiology, it’s really hard to stay bummed out. Laugh for 30 seconds, it will put you in a great mood. Have a dance party or do some jumping jacks. When you’re in that state and start laughing at yourself, you’re ready to tackle that list.
15:20 We all want to feel strong and powerful, and if we have the tools to do it, we can. That starts with having the inner belief that we can do it and get started.
