IN THIS EPISODE
0:17 Lizzy is the go-to person to help soulful entrepreneurs create their own retreat.
1:34 I, Tonya, am a mindset coach, doesn’t mean that I don’t have mindset blocks. It’s been really fun working with you Lizzy to see you break through blocks and create treats. You’ve helped me break through my blocks around having a retreat.
2:55 Lizzy has a background in higher education and was a faculty member before her journey into motherhood. She did a lot of crisis response which helps her while planning for everything that can happen during retreats. After leaving her job and having a baby, Lizzy still felt the need to have a community. She started a community called Inspired Family and through that, she realized she wanted to create intimate experiences for women.
6:11 Her goal became digging deep and creating an impact through retreats.
8:36 She realized as she started planning retreats she came at it differently. She created the experience and created retreats to step away from life, connect with others and nourishment. Getting deep with yourself and getting deep with others. She realized you can go to or plan one-day retreats that are life changing for your business and clients.
11:14 Lizzy is all about creating retreats that are accessible and doable for everyone, not just the top people who can afford them. She also realizes that women have babies and partners who can’t take that time off to support and allow women to take time off.
12:30 Being an introvert or an empath, or someone who needs time away, finding ways to recharge and replenish energy is important. One day retreats sound great to me. The one day and capitalizing on that energy, it’s a lot easier to do.
16:18 Replenish is an important part of a retreat is to relax. You can offer a journey that women can go on with themselves and a few other women and have these beautiful shifts in the time with themselves and others.
18:06 We all need to be creating retreats to our tribes so we can get them in front of ourselves, meeting them face to face and show them how much we appreciate them. There’s an elusive desire and then the question of where do I start? In your case Lizzy, you’re providing a blueprint for that question of where you start.
19:28 If you have a vision and a purpose and you know who your target market is, all you need to do is a little research and find a location. Start with your business. Retreat planning is the easy part. If you’re questioning if you want to plan a retreat, you’ve already built your business and done the hard work of growing as yourself.
20:56 What is so cool about retreats that once you plan a retreat, you can do it again. You can plan a one or two day retreat four times a year if you’ve got your location and the relationships with sponsors. Someone isn’t just going to stumble upon your website and drop $5,000 on a trip with you, but if it’s more reasonable, they’re going to join you.
24:06 One of Lizzy’s clients doesn’t have her followers close to where she’s at location wise. Lizzy says that she’s told her client that even if she’s got followers all over the world, it’s still possible to find 15 people to join you on a local journey with you.
15:11 The purpose of doing retreats is seeing your work in action. It also builds credibility when you see it on the website and know that a person who is having a retreat values intimacy and connection. Retreats also give you the ability to position yourself as an expert because you’re showing yourself on stage.
27:35 For your first retreat, Lizzy encourages co-collaboration and co-creation so if you’re new at hosting a retreat, you’re not alone. Working with partners is valuable because meeting people and connecting with women. You’re also able to ebb and flow and have some down time if you have a partner.
29:25 Lizzy helps you create a day that’s a journey and where meal placement goes and other events happen. She can break the event down and work through your fears and unknown.
31:29 Lizzy just finished her most recent event. It was her last official east coast retreat because she and her family moved from Philidelphia to Sonoma County, California. Leading up to the retreat, her caterer canceled, but because she had planned, she had her backups and it wasn’t a change of plans, it was just a shift. She ended up with the caterer she really wanted. The shift can bring us back to where we’re supposed to be and teach us something. There are times when there’s something better when something doesn’t go as planned, but you can say thank you for the events that happen.
39:06 Lizzy will teach you through her challenge how to build sponsor relationships as you explore your answer to if you’re ready for to jump into a retreat. She’s had people go through her challenge thinking they’ll do an event in 2018 and after that challenge, they’ll change their mind to fall 2017.
41:50 There’s something happening right now with women rising up to share their message. Now is the time to share and go on a journey together. There’s something different happening in this online space. There’s a lot of realizing that there’s enough money, buys, work and that’s causing people to come together and build community. A rising tide lifts all ships. Women all over are craving support, connection and purpose.
45:37 You help others connect online and in person is how you will get sales. There’s nothing better than building relationships to build businesses. People want you to sell to them because you’re doing good work that matters.
