Today’s guest is Tiffany Cavegn who is crushing her money blocks. Her story starts when she was a kid and continues to her realization as an adult:
She says, “nobody taught me how to cook. As a child, we ate dinner on TV trays in front of – you guessed it – the TV! As an adult, I could only make your basic tacos and spaghetti. Recipe experiments were a disaster.
Then I had my first of two children and I knew I had to do something different. I was determined to teach them to love family dinners and learn healthy cooking and eating habits. So I taught myself to cook. I loved it so much I went to culinary school and then started teaching the neighborhood kids how to cook through Centennial Community Education. That’s when the idea of a kids cooking academy was born. At the Kids Cooking School, we do all the work that goes along with teaching young people to cook – we do the shopping, the teaching, practicing, burning & learning, and of course – all of the cleaning.”
Find out more about Tiffany and how she’s broken through her money blocks to find success.
IN THIS EPISODE
3:30 There were several moments along the way in Tiffany’s journey that she decided she was going to make this school work. She realized she didn’t want to have an online business, she loved the one on one interaction with others. I quit my job not knowing how I was going to do it, I knew how I felt as an obese child and I wanted to keep other kids from going through that same pain of being teased and having a bad childhood. Parents cooking choices and healthy choices make a difference in raising healthy kids but I couldn’t get parents to come to class, but I could get kids to come.
8:29 This is what I’m meant to do and for 10 years I felt that in my gut. It was sitting on the front porch swing with my husband, and he told me I needed to have cooking classes for kids. I got to the point where I needed to actually step out and do it.
17:00 I decided this business was going to succeed.
22:20 Finances can be painful. I have to look at them and take responsibility for them. We know we’re going to be looking at guilt, shame, and regret. We’ll go to great lengths to avoid that pain.
28:17 What I was faced with was fear because we had to get a loan and we took the money out as a home equity loan. I didn’t borrow more money than what I could go back to work to make up the money. Because of that, I decided I was going to become a money bad ass because I want to keep the school and I don’t want it to go out of business because I don’t manage money well. You cannot take your first step forward if you don’t know where you’re standing.
33:48 Every woman wants to have independent in her finances.
34:14 In the Profit Party Academy, we went through a debt reduction exercise. We assigned a feeling to how we feel about our debt. The reason why I gave mine a 9/10 because I spent that money in a smart way and I have a plan for how I’m going to pay it back. I’m in control of the money.
36:32 We love our kids unconditionally, but we love them a whole lot more when they are under control and aren’t having temper tantrums on the floor. The same can be said about money.
38:00 I made the investment to hire some staff. They’re making me happy because hiring them, even though it’s costing me, it’s going to free me up to do the things that I’m gifted at. I’m not sure how I’m going to pay them the last month, but I will be able to build something more with them, then without them. When I’m focused on sharing my passion with other people, I am at your best.
